SYLVIA EKONG LAUDS UYO WOMEN FOR SUPPORT TO GOV. EMMANUEL, HON. UDO LED ADMINISTRATION

Vice Chairman, Uyo Local Government Council, Hon. (Pst.) Sylvia Ekong, has appreciated women of the area for their unalloyed support to Governor Udom Emmanuel, wife; Dr. Martha Emmanuel and the Uwemedimo Udo led administration, urging them not to rescind such support as the State and local governments mean well for them this yuletide and in the nearest future.

The Uyo Vice Chairman gave the charge yesterday at the Women’s Christmas Party for Uyo women held at the Local Government Council Secretariat, Uyo Village Road.

The party which was organized by the wife of the Council Chairman, Mrs Akaninyene Uwemedimo, had in attendance, wife of the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, present and past women political office holders of Uyo extraction, wives of all political office holders, women leaders, widows and indigent women across all villages in Uyo LGA.

Exchanging views with newsmen shortly after the epoch-making event, Hon. Sylvia Ekong, who thanked the Chairman’s wife for her sincere love for Uyo women, explained that the essence of the Yuletide is showing “care, sharing and putting smiles on people’s faces, especially the less privileged ones. This is exactly what we’re doing here for these women.”

The Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration hinted that Uyo Local Government was emulating the fine examples of Governor Udom Emmanuel and wife, Dr Martha Udom, submitting that the duo are committed to providing for indigent women and widows in the State.

“The Udom Emmanuel administration is indeed a blessing for Akwa Ibom women. Our mother; Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel, through her pet project – FEYReP, has changed horrible stories of women across the 31 Local Government Areas of the State. She has built houses for women, give huge amount to them to start small and medium scale businesses and millions of women are learning various skills to be self reliant courtesy of our dear governor’s wife.

“So, the lesson for us all to learn is that for as long as we live, we must continually glorify God for his infinite mercies upon us and our loved ones. If not for God, what would our story be?” She asked rhetorically.

On her advice to single ladies, Sylvia, who is an ordained Pastor and mother of three, urged single ladies to take their time, think and pray about it before going into marriage.

Her words: “A lot of people get married today due to different reasons and the social media have taken over the realities of life, that is why we see some people getting married for flimsy and different excuses.

“I would say to the younger ones that you need to know what you want and what you are getting yourself into.

“You need somebody who knows who you are, what you are and what you intend to be in the future but the paramount thing before you embark on the ‘journey’ is prayer,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Women Christmas party tagged “Together in Love”, featured sessions of Thanksgiving, dance, drama, fashion parade and drinking competition.

Highpoint of the occasion was presentation of bags of rice, wrapper materials and financial support to the indigent women to celebrate the Christmas and New Year.
